Our Story

At Barbara Hubert Bookbinding we enjoy practising the age-old craft of hand bookbinding.

A well-bound book should be a pleasure to handle and enhance the joy of reading and writing

Established in 1997, Hubert Bookbindery has blended traditional bookbinding techniques with contemporary and classic styles, producing eclectic and characterful handmade stationery and custom bindings for almost thirty years.

Barbara Hubert began her bookbinding career in Ingelheim, Germany where she completed her apprenticeship. From early on she was fascinated by the endless versatility of materials such as leather and paper, and how they give a text a sound structure, that is both tactile and visually pleasing. It was a small step from a love of books and reading to a desire to make them. Now Barbara runs the bookbindery and craft shop in the heart of Cork City, along with four other bookbinders who have trained under her – Gillian, Michelle, Lou and Maria.

Hubert Bookbindery pride themselves on their versatility and offer a diverse range of services from repairs to commission binding, small print runs for local writers, presentation boxes, occasion photo albums, writing sets and custom projects. Clients and recipients are equally diverse, including Michael D. Higgins, Michelle Obama, Donovan, Bono, and Colm Tóbín, as well as Universities, art colleges, photographers, book dealers, and of course the general public. They also supply a number of bookshops and craft retail businesses with their distinctive hand-made stationery.

We supply a number of shops in Ireland with our hand-made stationery.
